FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — When a Fayetteville man posted a photo of racist graffiti on a building off of Martin Luther King Blvd. that read “White Pride” to a community group on Facebook, local artist Olivia Trimble stepped in to help.
Trimble asked the owners of the building if they would let her paint a mural over it. When they agreed, she got to work on Friday, July 25.
On Monday, she posted the finished product, a beautiful mural with the words “Love unites us” in big letters where the racist message once was.
“Last week, someone painted ‘White Pride’ on this wall,” Trimble said in a post on social media that included a photo.
“With the support of the community I was able to paint a message that more accurately represents the values we hold here in Fayetteville, Arkansas.”
This isn’t the first time the artist has repainted over hate speech that has shown up in the community.
